From The Industrious Lady
Guys guys guys! its a 28 inch waist! that would fit the average women today! Granted paletots were often larger to accomate a dress and trim without being too tight. The satin piping is also interesting. There are velvet paletots in the met museums collection but most have satin binding or have a cotton binding. Without seeing the actual item its hard to tell if it is binding or piping being used. The hidden buttons are also quite unique. This might actually be a little bit later, more late 1860's, early 1870's with the flat front and more fullness in the back
