Victorian Civil War Black Silk Taffeta Velvet Trim Pagoda Sleeve Mourning Bodice

'
From the Seller:

This antique Victorian Civil War era black silk taffeta velvet trim pagoda sleeve mourning bodice dates from the 1860s. It is made of a black silk taffeta fabric with black velvet ribbon trim edging the sleeve cuffs, bottom hem and creating a decorative lattice work crisscross grid design on both the front and back. This magnificent mourning bodice blouse top has a nipped in waist with flared peplum skirted bottom, pleated gathered draped back skirt, long pagoda style sleeves with wide flared bell cuffs, ruched gathering trim around the elbows, brass hook closures down the front and is fully lined in a brown polished cotton fabric inside. The bodice measures 22 inches long, with a 32 inch bust, 24 inch waist, 18 inch long sleeves and 13 inch back. It is in good as-is condition, with only a small patched mended repair under the arms and two tiny frayed splits on the silk fabric on the shoulder (see close-ups). This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Victoriana mourning wearable art!

From the Industrious Lady:
Hmm, while there is a chance that this might have been considered acceptable for mourning wear, but this color and the black velvet trim were very popular for everyday wear. It is also more like an 1850's dress. The peplum and large sleeves are very popular for 1850's style as shown below
