Moire Time to Kill: Sewing the Moire Dress Bodice

So here we are, a bodice has been formed. Somehow by the grace of the sewing gods and a bit of reshaping, the bodice of Truly Victorian 443 has finally bent to my will. Even though I am a good size 12, the shoulder on the front piece had to be reduced down several sizes.  A good inch had to be removed from both sides, bringing up the back and the area where the waist "pinches" in. Now I am no shortwaist, at 5'8 most bodices need to be lengthened. But this one was so long that it looked more like a weird peplum than a normal pointed bodice.

I should have known, even the bodice pattern piece looks extremely long.

These pieces seemed to be better in the length, except for the middle black which I brought up a few inches to raise the narrowest point of the shaping of the bodice. Thank goodness for dress forms, poor Bertha earned her keep this week with all the stabbing and pinning that had to be done to her when shaping everything.

Again, looking at the front bodice piece, it looks super, super long.
But still, its so gorgeous that its hard to not get distracted by the beauty of the fabric when trying to actually dart and fit it!

Here you can see that the back has been raised and the shoulders reshaped. This was right before I shorted the front darts, and opened the neckline more.

Ain't she purty? Still needs a little tweaking but for now, it'll do. Time to grab a glass of wine and just look at it for a little while the schemes continue to work on what the next step is. Plus its so fun to just look at!
