From The Seller:
Rare Antique Victorian 1860's White Cotton Day Dress. Made from a semi sheer windowpane woven crisp white cotton. With hand piped seams and tight cartridge pleating. Most of the dress appears to have been meticulously hand sewn. Low sloped shoulders with wonderfully full bishop sleeves and a tight gathered cuff. Unbuttons fully down the front with sweet tiny starburst mother of pearl buttons and hand sewn buttonholes. Very full skirt would take a hoop.

In good wearable antique condition. It has been laundered and the cotton is looking white and is still strong apart from the skirt damage. There is a line of various sized holes along the right hand side of the skirt buttons. Rare and beautiful example of 1860's everyday wear.

Bust is 33"
Waist 30"
Shoulder to shoulder 19.5"
Arm scye 6"
Cuff 7" diameter
Shoulder to waist 14"
Waist to hem 42"

For reference the mannequin is 33.25" Bust and 25" waist.

From The Industrious Lady:
Sheer dresses were worn during the 1860's as light summer dresses, highly fashionable. Since this does not have a lining the corset cover and petticoats would serve as the lining to protect ones modesty.
