Rare Antique Victorian Civil War Era 1860s Printed Cotton Calico Bodice Pagoda Sleeves
From the Seller:
Rare antique original Victorian cotton print bodice c.1860. Wonderful print on a teal coloured background and large pagoda styled sleeves. The edges are trimmed with teal blue silk. Lined in cotton and front hook and eye fastenings.
Amazingly this piece is in good wearable antique condition. There is a small split near the front waist and upper back. Small hole near sleeve. Faint underarm discoloration and missing lower hooks and green tassels.
Bust 31"
Waist 24"
Across back seam to seam 17"
Length 18"

From the Industrious Lady:
IT may have been still worn in 1860 but this dress is probably closer to 1855, and could eve be a remade 1840's dress. That front is just begging to come down to a point in the front. It does appear to be longer in the front than the back. Really loving the use of bias binding to finish the sleeves. First tine seeing that! The sleeve jockey is also a very 1850's styling technique
An example of an earlier bodice with a point and sleeve jockeys.
