A Matter of Vests


I used this pattern for its pants and vest. It does include two styles of coats but for what I wanted the pants and vests worked perfect.

Pros 
The pattern pieces did make up nicely for the most part once I threw the instructions away. If you are feeling adventurous and just want to do your own thing then this pattern is for you! The sizing was actually a little big so it was very easy to fit on the the model and make adjustments.

Cons
This was bad. I have tried both the pants and vest for this and it was a nightmare. The instructions are terrible, could not follow what and where the instructions wanted done. Each piece is numbered but the instruction use the abbreviation of the name and it just makes it even more confusing. 


I was able to make a working vest with this pattern, but the pants just needed to be scrapped. They did not at all come out the right size or shape. I also took the collar off the vest just because I didn't like how it looked. The stunning shot silk used to make the item and the beautiful pocket added that little extra something that makes a project worth all the frustrations and struggles. Definitely not a project for the faint of heart. I may try one of the coats just to see how it turns out when made up. Burda 2787 unfortunately only gets 2/5 stars.

 2021 was rough for the industrious Lady Blog and my dear followers you deserve an apology. Bodice with Bretelles

This lovely Satin Material is the Park Square in Adobe from the Allen Park collection, sadly no longer available. Good thing I had seven yards of it, enough for a dress for me and vest for the hubby. The bodice had to be cut twice, the first time the lines were offset, oops.  Ah the bretelles. 19th century ladies liked their french fou fou names. Any ordinary style instantly becomes 10x fancier with a french name attached.  Few, the bodice fit. Which was great since I like to live dangerously and skip the mock-up step.  Alright Bretelles, I see you there. LOOKING ALL FINE.... buttt it didn't match quite right, time to recut.  That's better on matching. The bretelles and hook and eyes were completely handsewn in. Poor middle finger had worn through, snd the unfortunate old curse from the sewing shop returned. Halloween Sew-Along Part 2 For this project, I chose the night and day dress. I had seen it years ago while researching what fancy dress ball gowns looked like. Unfortunately, the origin of this lovely dress is a mystery. The url says it was a night/day dress by CF Worth in 1858. If the date is correct, this dress would have been during the first year of House of Worth being started.
